Lucy from U2 Graffiti Wall posted this last night and it's so great that I just wanted to share it with everyone!! Happy Holidays! ~Marie
'Twas the night before Christmas, and on The Wall's site
U2 fans gathered to discuss and to write
How their love for the band, with nothing compares
And so, here's a daydream, with Holiday cares:
U2 fans nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of concerts danced in their heads;
There's Edge with his beanie, and Bono's blue shades
Adam with bass, and Larry's cool gaze.
Out from the amps, there arose such a clatter
Of resounding riffs from songs that matter;
Within the ellipse, fans jump up and dash
While the drums pound away and the bright cymbals clash.
And curtains of light on the Vertigo stage
Give luster of midday in colourful shades;
When, what to expectant eyes should appear
But the best band still playing, in their near-thirtieth year.
The four Dubliners, from boys to men grew
Fans knew in a moment it must be U2;
Playing the classics, adding the new
The setlist, still stunning; the songbook we knew:
"Vertigo!" "Elevation!" to start off the show
"Sunday Bloody Sunday" as politics go;
Then "Streets," and of course "One," then "Pride"
In a purely emotional, rock 'n' roll ride.
Bono, dressed all in leather, dons his cowboy hat
(Name one other person who could pull off that!)
He holds out the mic for the crowd now to sing
The chorus resounds beyond the elliptical ring.
The lyrics--how they echo, whether indoors or out
Whether at Slane or Live Aid or Red Rocks; just count
All the times that the band, as 'B' likes to say
"Lost gravity" for that moment and floated away.
The sound of the music, the lyrics and words
Are more than the show, are more than what's heard;
The impact is broader than one concert, one date
Which is why we all love them, and what makes them great.
So with Christmas spirit, in good holiday cheer
May we have music, joy, and love in this upcoming year;
And be heard to exclaim, in holiday lights,
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"
